Define "Released" - IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad

A few days back, the release of IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad was announced.

IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad is not short in nice flight simulation ingredients (some of the flight models, weapon effects, visuals that will appeal the eye and the situational awareness around the virtual battlefield and other aids which suspend the disbelief). Unfortunately, IL-2 is larded with un-lockables that leave an after taste suspiciously similar to the one I feel with mainstream games. Sorely missing, and arguably the very foundation of thriving flight simulation communities, is a mission editor.

After having this flight simulator for so long (was it in open beta, is that the term?), I just don't know what to expect anymore. "Released" appears to mean not too much these days.

I'm sure I am going to get to unlock or being offered a customized machine gun before seeing the mission editor. If I ever get to see one.

Cheers,

Yeah, I think many of us are confused about what exactly prompted calling this sim, as it currently stands, the 'release version'. Lack of an FMB is a huge omission, and absolutely critical for any sim these days. And the unlock idea is just astonishingly awful.

I'm debating how much time it's worth putting into it, sadly, as DCS seems to have it beat in just about every category. It's a shame, because it had so much potential. But as it stands, it's hard not to feel hugely let down.
